For instance, in England it is considered impolite to toast a person who is older than you, while Brazilians always insist on eating with a knife and fork, even if it’s pizza. In both India and Japan, it is rude to say “no,” while New Zealanders value punctuality, and only talk business during lunch, never dinner.
Fascinating, right? Hopefully this will help with my own travels later this summer. I always find it interesting to see how innocuous actions can be viewed as impolite in other cultures. For instance, in Italy, an espresso is only enjoyed at breakfast, and not something to be ordered when you need a late afternoon pick-me-up.
