A Hospital Waiting Room Headache

by Peggy M. Parks, AICI CIP, CPBS

doctor-73117_1920The other day a friend of mine went to the hospital to get an MRI done on her knee. She checked in and was asked to sit in the waiting area until the technician was ready. As my friend walked over, she saw that the waiting area was empty of patients but littered with trash. It looked like several past visitors had brought snacks and drinks with them and then left them for others to pick up. She was appalled.

Remember that a hospital and doctor’s office waiting room should be treated with respect. If you need a snack or bottle of water, fine, but don’t make a mess. Everyone working there has more than enough to do without having to play maid. How hard is it to find a trash can?

You’re also making an unpleasant experience worse for those who are in pain and discomfort. Patients shouldn’t have to move your litter to take a seat, especially in an environment that should be clean and sterile.
