M.I.A.’s Obscene Gesture at the Super Bowl

February 6, 2012 by RoseNew

Is it possible for us to get through a Super Bowl without a wardrobe malfunction, expletive, or obscene gesture? It looks like we’ll have to wait until next year to find out.

Though Madonna was more or less on her best behavior, last night’s Super Bowl half-time performance was marred by the singer M.I.A., who flashed her middle finger at the audience and used the S-word on stage.

“We apologize for the inappropriate gesture that aired during half-time,” an NBC spokesman has said. “It was a spontaneous gesture that our delay system caught late.”

The channel added that M.I.A. did not make the gesture during rehearsals. I think it’s such a shame that she decided to use this opportunity to offend people and make a gesture that is so negative and confrontational, especially considering how many children were watching the program. How embarrassing.

The show may have ended with the message “World Peace,” but M.I.A.’s angry gesture completely undermined that.
