Be A #Girlboss

by Peggy M. Parks, AICI CIP, CPBS

1girlbossA friend of mine has a daughter who just recommended the book #Girlboss to me. Having now read it, I too am convinced that it’s a must-read for any young career woman.

The book, which is sort of a biography meets inspirational career guide, follows Sophia Amoruso’s path from community college dropout to CEO of the highly successful Nasty Gal e-commerce site. While her own tale is inspiring, it’s Amoruso’s non-nonsense business advice that is especially helpful to women just starting out in their careers. I love her tip on refusing to say “that’s not my job.” As any entrepreneur knows, there will be times when you have to juggle a million tasks and no job is below you.

The book also features advice on crafting the perfect resume and cover letter, handling criticism, and getting through a job interview. It urges all women to be their own #Girlbosses, and find strength in their own skills. I’ve already ordered a couple of copies for birthday presents, and I think any young woman could benefit from the advice.
