Since the kids will soon be gearing up to go back to school, it seems only natural that we grown-ups also get in that recharged state of mind. Hey, a little homework never hurt anyone, especially when it comes to ensuring that your career is at the top of its game. Refer to this checklist to see what upgrades are needed for your business.
Website/blog: Assuming you have a business site (and if you don’t, that may be something to consider starting up), take a few moments to see how it is performing. Are all of the links working? Is the content up to date and accurate? Would a new design, portrait, or color scheme give it a bit more spark? Are you promoting or updating everything on a consistent basis?
Business cards: I hate being handed a business card, only to be told that the email, title, or phone number is no longer relevant. If you’re working solo, make sure every detail is current—don’t just scrawl it down with a pen. If you’re part of a larger company, ask your employer about making the necessary updates. Finally, make sure that you have a plentiful stash of cards at all times. It’d be a shame to run out before a big meeting or networking event!
Social networking: Do you have accounts for LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook? Do a clean sweep and make sure the information is current and relevant—no need for your old Candy Crush scores or embarrassing photos to still be lurking around. Provided your social networking accounts are work-related, consider updating your email signature so that others can easily click over.
Goals: What would like to achieve in the last quarter? What areas do you need to improve on? Is there a class that might help? A wardrobe overhaul? A new assistant? Set yourself small goals to help you breeze through the rest of the year.
